The Shadow Falls

Chapter 4

 

As Blacka got to the enemies' camp (tired, but there) night had fallen. She walked quietly past the guards, who did not notice her shadowy form, and stopped to the cage where Domino Jack and Karazia were. They had been captured earlier and bored after 10 minutes of confinement, Domino Jack had managed to annoy everyone and only quieted down after the guard threatened to gag him. Karazia and Domino Jack then occupied the time by playing 'I Spy' until they had both fallen into a fitful sleep. The guard by the cage had wandered away to share the conversation and ale being consumed by the others.

  'Shhh Karazia, wake up!' Blacka whispered. The smaller feline opened her eyes. They were light green and shiny.

  'Blacka?' Karazia whispered back.

  'Yeah, tell Domino Jack to wake up and... where are the keys?'

  'Over there.' Karazia pointed them out. Blacka jumped to catch them and open the door. They had good luck as the nearest guard was sleeping and they had not made much noise. Blacka lead them toward the exit past the sleeping guard. But then their luck ran out. As they hurried along in the dark, Domino Jack's foot accidentally slipped into a rabbit hole and he fell over and hit the ground with a thud and a surprised grunt of pain. The sleeping guard woke at the sound and saw them. He suddenly shouted, alerting all the guards!

  'W-what now, Blacka?' stammered Karazia.

'Run!!!' And so they did..

In the great hall Lady Astra had rounded up everyone and they sat round the table discussing plans. Astra looked round, there was Morgan, Raven, Astrinka, Yu Kamari Red whom Morgan had roused from his bed in his dojo and Arcane from the botanical tree garden. Leo G and Vandal were elsewhere on their quest and Bane, Anarchy and Llarella were also too far away on their business to help.  

'Well, the tower is well protected by design and spell, we could easily last out a siege.' Said Morgan .'I don't know about the towns' people though. It may be that the enemies' interest would be solely in us or it could be that the people are in danger. Should we risk them?'

Lady Astra frowned 'it may be simpler to leave the castle and go where they cannot find us and they tire of their plans. They are camped in the North but the South is open, there are obviously not expecting us to escape.'

'WHAAAAAAT?' roared Yu Kamari Red, leaping up and slamming his fist on the table much like Kyran did earlier. 'You want us to RUUUUN AWAAAAAAAY? We should stay and fight back!'

'Good luck fighting an army by yourself' muttered Raven. However, Red actions had jogged Astra's memory. 'Raven, do you remember how Sir Kyran affected the sky when he got angry?'

'Oh yes, that was interested wasn't it?' Raven pondered 'It looked like he had some control over the elements, though whether   it is conscious or not, I'm not sure.'

"I believe that he is part Zephyr Naiad' Astra concluded.

'What does that mean?' Red queried looking puzzled.

'He is part Nymph and has control over air and water elements' explained Lady Astra. 'Only I don't think he can consciously control the air element.'

"So what are we going to do about him and what's his face...Rodofo?' asked Morgan. ' And what about Karazia and Domino Jack?"

'I have an idea about our 'visitors'' announced Arcane; joining the conversation for the first time. 'Alone we could probably take on Kyran and Rodofo, it's the army that is the problem. We shall tell them to send the army away in return for agreeing to open a portal. Then I shall open a portal somewhere else without them realizing and strand them there' she ended with a wicked glint in her eye.  

Astra added 'As for Karazia and Domino Jack, I am hoping that Blacka already has them well away from danger...'
