Contemplation colouring process
just showing the progress of the colouring on this picture
Start- first step is scanning and cleaning up the line art
Flats- then lay the basic flat colour (a mid-colour) and select the areas and
save them. When laying flats for selection you can use any colour to separate
the area, then change them to the right colour after saving.
Background- I already had in mind a fiery sunset background so this is created.
I wanted it to be a bit more red but this is how it turned out
Mid ground- The background looked too open so i added a border of plants.
I think drawing in the plants in the bottom of the picture was a mistake, it
make it too closed. I softened the edges of the leaves and added a little of
the background colour to them.

the final steps of colouring
character coloured!- using the handy wand tool to make selections the main shading
is done on the body and mane. When colouring (particularly black) characters
try using shading and highlights with a hint of the reflective background colours
in so it doesn't look so flat.
Final touches- adding lighting effects and the extra orange highlight
