Desira portrait colouring process

Because people always ask how i colour stuff i thought i'd do a quick overview in case its helpful to anyone. I colour in photoshop with a tablet

Step 1- scan in inked line art at 300-600 dpi B&W bitmap. tidy up line art, convert to RGB. Magic eraser the white, select the image and copy and paste it in a new layer which will be coloured.
Step 2- bucket the flats and magic wand/ save selection them.
Step 3- load appropriate selection i.e. the body, airbrush the two darker shades according to the anatomy/light position
Step 4- air brush the two lighter shades

Step 5- colour the other areas in the same way
Step 6- colour in wings/ eyes/ jewellery etc *tip on colouring metal- most of the shine is white with high contrasts between the lighter and darker areas*
Step 7- more work on the wings
Step 8- the purple and pale orange spots i put in to tell me what the main light and back light colours were and their direction. I chose these colours as they would look good on this character. I rim light with them using my selections again according to the anatomy/ light direction and how close that part of the body is to the source.
