Brush creation guide for Photoshop

often asked question, how do you do nice looking grass quickly? the photoshop grass tool will do it quickly but looks horrible just used as an all over blanket. I found the best way is to make a collection of brush tools and use them all to create different patches of grass giving a much more natural look.
I have attached a page with some of my own brush templates on to get you started.

(click on image for large view)
copy and paste one on a new page
then go to Edit- Define brush preset (or Define new brush for older versions).
Your new brush should appear at the bottom of the brushes window. Oke, its kinda a dull so we need to add some settings to it.
Put the brushes window in to expanded view (in the brushes window menu which is the small circle with the black arrow in on the right hand side) and tick the shape dynamics, scattering, smoothing, colour dynamics and other dynamics boxes.
You will need to adjust the scattering's settings so click on it to bring up its setting, leave the first two sliders fairly low but turn the jig right up.
Now to make that brush with the new settings as a new brush go to the brushes window menu again- new brush preset (new brush)
Your new brush should appear next to the old one. Delete the old one via the bush window menu to keep tidy.
You select your new brush and change the size/ setting etc and hit new brush to make another brush
Repeat the process with the other brush templates to build your collection or make your own templates and turn them into brushes. You can use this technique to make any kind of brush you like i.e. a new leaf brush by simply draw the shape you want.
Remember to save your new brush collection via the brush window menu!

the second attachment is an example of what the brushes look like when used. Mix brush tools together with handdrawn grass blades to get a more natural look.
